25 years of teaching experience. A specialist focus on literacy and phonics.
Hello, I'm Lisa.
I've been teaching for 25 years, and throughout my career I've developed a particular passion and expertise in literacy and phonics.
I've led literacy and supported other teachers to develop their practice, but what I enjoy most is working with children and seeing that moment when something that has been difficult finally starts to make sense.
WHY PHONICS?
Phonics is an important foundation for learning to read, but children don't all learn in the same way or at the same pace.
I've become particularly interested in recognising when a child isn't naturally grasping a concept and working out what is getting in the way and what they need to move forward.
Sometimes that means more repetition. Sometimes a different explanation. Sometimes breaking a skill down into smaller steps.
For me, good phonics teaching is about noticing those things and responding to the individual child.
MY APPROACH
I believe in clear, consistent and targeted teaching.
I start by understanding what your child already knows and identifying the areas where they need support. From there, I can adapt the teaching and focus on the skills that will make the biggest difference.
I also believe that parents are an important part of the process. When parents understand what their child is learning and how they can support it at home, children benefit from a consistent approach..
Why online?
I chose to offer my tutoring online because it means I can support families wherever they are in the UK.
There is no need to travel to a tutoring centre. Your child can receive specialist phonics support from the comfort of home, in a familiar environment and without geographical restrictions.
